I'm looking for a good Indian place on the east side, someplace that
doesn't dumb down the food for Americans. I've tried Udipi Palace in
Crossroads and I liked the South Indian cuisine they serve but want to
widen my food horizons. So any restaurants on the East side, any
Indian groceries over here as well, any recommendations are welcome.

In the food court inside the Crossroads Mall is a very genuine South
Indian place. The food used to be quite excellent. I am sorry, but I
cannot name the place.

I also used to like "Taste of India" over in the same shopping area as
the old bowling alley off 148th over by I-90.

Finally, I posted in 2003 about a Moghul place in Kirkland:

Karen and I like Shamiana, but the owners are Caucasians and the cuisine isn't
just Indian. Shamiana is in Houghton by PCC.

I am currently fond of Kanishka down in Redmond as well.

Please post your experiences, Bubba. You seem to know what you're doing.

I believe a new place is in the same location, and I have not yet tried it -
have you?

I've heard very good things about a place called "Spice Route", but have
not been to check it out. You might want to check reviews of the place.
Here's their home page: http://www.spiceroutecuisine.com/

I've also had pretty good luck at Taj Palace, on 140th just north of 520
(next door to the roller-skating rink!). They have an outstanding lunch
buffet, more extensive than most places, and my daughter loves the lamb
bhoti kebab there. http://www.tajpalaceofindia.com/

Good luck with it, and if you DO try Spice Route, let us know how it is!

Mayuri Indian Cuisine, at 15400 NE 20th St #6 (just south of the main
Microsoft campus) was a good place back when I used to go there a few
years ago, and it did plenty of business with Indian clientele (like I
said, south of Microft!).

Down south, in Renton, Pabla Indian Cuisine is a vegetarian place and
has its own Indian grocery shop as well. Find it at 364 Renton Center
Way SW, #C60.
